The TwoByte Story

I started the TwoByteThomas YouTube channel purely as a way to have a creative outlet outside of my previous full time job writing code for the web, an industry I worked in for 15+ years.

Because of the global pandemic, I ended up having the privilege of working from home - a situation I thought would only last for a few weeks at most. As it became more apparent that this would be the norm, I realized that I needed to improve my work from home space. Moving from our kitchen table to a spare bedroom, I bought a cheap desk from IKEA, put a few old monitors on some shoeboxes, and started from there.

After slowly making upgrades over the next few years, and with another home office update in the works, I decided to film the process - eventually posting that video to YouTube. The response was nothing I could have imagined, and it inspired me to continue creating videos.

Aside from “desk setup” content, I enjoy technology and talking about it in general, which is why I make videos about anything I can get my hands on - from keyboards, monitors, TVs, and handheld gaming devices.

My philosophy about technology in general is that buying or upgrading anything should be done with patience - whether that’s adding new decor to your home office, or buying a new keyboard for your desk. In this economy, these things are usually expensive, and it’s why I insist to always take your time when upgrading anything. Save up for the thing you really want, as those things usually last longer anyway.

As corny as it sounds, it’s not a race. It’s a journey.
